Green Storage Management

Tree We have been invited to participate in a series of “Green Technology” sessions at a summit event for a North American specialty distributor for VARs in June.

Novell, along with four other hardware and software vendors will be participating in the session and Novell Storage Manager will be a big focus of Novell’s presence at the show.

Emphasizing Novell Storage Manager at the session was a logical choice because of the product’s ability to transform enterprise data from an unstructured state to a structured one and then enforce policies for storage allocation, provisioning, allowable file types, vaulting, deletion, and more. As a result, server disk storage space is optimized and maintained so that less storage space and devices are needed.

In contrast, many enterprises continue to live in an unstructured storage state and address their exponentially-growing storage needs by simply buying more storage devices as a stopgap method to store their ever-growing data.

Anyway, for people who think green storage is something like this, our talking points should be real educational.

It should be a great event. I’ll be posting more during the week of the event.

Check Out Our DocXchanger Ad in Novell Connection Magazine

DocXchanger Connections ad The May issue of Novell Connection magazine is out and we’re one of the primary sponsors of the issue. Click any of the article links and look for our DocXchanger ad in the Advertisement window in the upper right side of the page. We are sharing the space with another advertiser, so you may have to refresh to see our ad.

Speaking of DocXchanger, we just finished publishing a success story at Community Schools of Frankfort in Indiana. This is the first academic deployment of DocXchanger and the school district’s teachers absolutely love the remote access capabilities of DocXchanger. It was easy to deploy and took very little training.  They are rolling DocXchanger out in phases and should be using DocXchanger to eliminate the need for all email attachments by the beginning of the 2008-09 school year. We should have the success story posted this week. If you would like a copy of it sooner, send me an email at bgashler@condreycorp.com and I’ll send you a DocXchanger sharing link to the success story.

Enterprise Ready Reporting Coming this Summer in NSM 2.1

Preimesberger Chris Preimesberger’s Storage Station blog on eweek.com recently wrote that “The increase in the amount of data being stored isn’t slowing down one iota” He brings out the impressive quarterly earnings reported by storage companies and the storage divisions of computer manufacturers.

It’s obvious that the new Enterprise Ready Reporting enhancement in this summer’s release of Novell Storage Manager 2.1 will play a big role in helping organizations get storage under control.

The Enterprise Ready Reporting feature is identity-based and is engineered to support large enterprises. With Enterprise Ready Reporting, you can schedule the examination of millions of files and hundreds of thousands of directories in a variety of operating systems and files systems, and then provide comprehensive reports on what file types are being stored, when files were created, when files were last opened, if files have been duplicated or updated, and much more.

Using these reports, you can make decisions on what to do with these files to free up your storage.

A feature within Enterprise Ready Reporting is Storage Charge Back Reports, which lets you put a monetary value on storage, determines a monetary cost of storage by department, and if desired, uses cost as the means of charging back departments that exceed storage quotas

Google Adwords and Kanaka

Google_adwords We started advertising Kanaka through Google Adwords this week. In the process, we created a specific, single product page where people who learned about the product through Google could get all of the information they needed on the product as well as purchase it. You can see the product page here.

We continue to see evaluation software downloads of Kanaka and DocXchanger from organizations in various industries. Just one example—a city government in California under the guidance of a Condrey Corporation partner, has a DocXchanger download up and operational. They have already determined that DocXchanger’s ability to eliminate the need for email attachments while providing remote access capabilities to network-stored files and folders is something they cannot live without and have decided to purchase the product.
